Bridge auction between Brazil and Argentina does not receive proposals and is suspended

The Concession Auction of the São Borja Binational Bridge – Santo Tomé that ligaes Brazil and Argentina, has not attracted proposals and will need to be suspended for the second time. The notice provided for the delivery of envelopes of stakeholders during the afternoon of Thursday, 3, a day before the public dispute scheduled for this Friday, 4.

Initially, the auction for the exchange of the current manager was scheduled for January 31, but was suspended by determination of the Federal Court of Audit (TCU). According to the representation accepted in the TCU, there were doubts about qualification requirements of the notice and the fulfillment of mandatory steps. After adjustments, it was resumed.

As it has not received proposals, the project must undergo analysis to be offered again to the market. The current version foresees US $ 99 million in investments in the stretch, which concentrates about 23% of commercial operations between the two countries and 39.98% of trade relations between Brazil and Chile.

With 15.62 km long, the bridge is the result of an agreement signed between Brazil and Argentina in 1989. The term of the concession is 25 years and the company will be responsible for performing a set of technical and operational interventions in the structure.
