Jared Polis, Governor of Colorado, denied that gang members from the “Tren de Aragua” are committing crimes in Aurora

It appears that Colorado Governor Jared Polis has a different perspective than Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman regarding the criminal activity of the Venezuelan gang known as the “Tren de Aragua” in the state.

In response to a complaint from a member of Aurora’s City Council, which raised concerns about criminal activity by members of the “Tren de Aragua,” Polis stated that the claims lack evidence. Danielle Jurinsky, a community representative in Aurora, expressed her concerns about violent gang members committing crimes in certain areas of the suburb. She demanded that both the governor and the mayor stop supporting the arrival of undocumented immigrants.

Jurinsky stated, “To our governor and the mayor of Denver, I refuse to be silenced. I refuse to play politics with you regarding this immigration crisis. And I will keep speaking out to help as many people as I can,” during an interview with the New York Post.

A video circulated on local Fox News and social media showing four individuals attempting to break into an apartment in a suburban Aurora building. The individuals, described as having Latino features, were armed with pistols and even a long-range rifle.

Despite these concerns, Polis, through his spokesperson Shelby Wieman, dismissed the presence of the “Tren de Aragua” in the state. “The governor has informed the mayor that the state is ready to support the local police department with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if necessary. However, according to police intelligence, this supposed invasion is largely a product of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination,” Wieman emphasized.

Wieman also noted that violent crime in the city, which is now reportedly threatened by the Venezuelan gang, actually decreased between 2022 and 2023.

However, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman acknowledged in an interview with Fox News that several buildings in the city “have fallen into the hands of these Venezuelan gangs.”
