Ethics Council votes for the revocation of Glauber Braga for aggression to the MBL militant

Deputy Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA), rapporteur of the lawsuit against Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) at the Ethics Council of the Chamber of Deputies, voted on Wednesday (2) for the revocation of the mandate of the parliamentarian.

Magalhães concluded that there was breach of decorum from Braga, who was involved in episodes of aggression against a militant of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL), Gabriel Costenaro, and against Deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP) in April 2023.

The incident occurred in the premises of the Chamber of Deputies. At the time, Glauber kicked Gabriel Costenaro and kicked him out of the scene. The confusion continued in the parking lot of Annex 2, where both were separated and taken to the House’s Legislative Police Department. During the episode, Braga also argued with Kim Kataguiri, calling him a “Nazi defender”, which resulted in exchange of pushes between the two.

According to the rapporteur, Glauber Braga’s conduct cannot be considered self -defense.

“The conduct practiced by Deputy Glauber Braga would not be covered by the self-defense, since the Penal Code establishes that it is understood in self-defense who, using moderately the necessary means, repels unfair aggression,” said Magalhães in his vote.

He also pointed out that “Gabriel Costenaro’s history of earlier provocations against the represented and his party companions would not authorize physical violence.”

The vote was interrupted after a request for a view made by Deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ), ally of Glauber.

The report is expected to be analyzed at the next session of the Ethics Council. If approved, the process will be referred to the House Plenary, where the cancellation of the mandate will need to be confirmed by the absolute majority of the deputies.

On social networks, Glauber Braga reacted to the opinion, stating that he used the process to denounce the MBL and what he called the “secret budget scheme”. “I’m prepared for whatever comes,” said the parliamentarian on platform X (former Twitter).
