Reader’s doubt: I am married and I have a child who is my dependent at the paying source, in the income tax of the company where I work. However, my wife took our son to a private treatment, paid for expenses and all invoices are issued in her CPF. How to declare these medical expenses correctly? Can I include our child as a dependent on her statement and also mine? What to do in this case?

Responseby Henrique Paslar*:

“Considering that the wife also delivers the income tax statement, it is not possible for the child to appear in both statements as dependent.

In case the invoices are issued at the wife’s CPF, it will not be possible for the father to declare the expenses.

In this case, there are 2 alternatives: or the child is included as dependent on the wife’s statement (and excluded as dependent on the father’s statement); Or the couple submit the statement together. In the latter, the son and one of the spouses will appear as dependents. ”
