The auction includes Kobe Bryant’s locker used during his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, a Diego Maradona jersey from the 1986 World Cup, Florence Griffith Jones’ running sneakers and a Rafael Nadal tennis racket.
Also up for grabs are the 2024 NBA Finals jerseys of the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics.
In total, Sotheby’s estimates the collection will bring in at least $2.3 million.
The collection “was really meant to highlight athletes at the pinnacle of their careers,” Hawkes said. “We have pieces that have set world records, that have won championships, all of the above. And we think this really encapsulates a wide range of great sporting pieces.”
Sotheby’s Sports Week features a series of auctions with online access.
The “Altitude Capsule Collection” runs until August 2nd.
