The Public Prosecution Service of São Paulo filed a public civil action against São Paulo Futebol Clube and the City Hall, alleging the non -compliance with an agreement signed in 2023 for the construction of day care centers in exchange for the concession of use of the Barra Funda Training Center, in the west of São Paulo. According to the Housing and Urbanism Prosecutor’s Office, the club and management of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) did not fulfill the obligations established in the term, which provided for the construction of two day care centers as counterpart for the use of an area of 44,000 m². According to the action, the city did not provide the land necessary for the construction of day care centers, which should serve at least 160 students each and cost up to R $ 5 million per unit.
The MP also requests that São Paulo pay a retroactive rent of R $ 3 million per month for the use of space without the delivery of counterparts, which can result in an accumulated amount of over R $ 100 million. In addition, the prosecution calls for indemnity for “social damage” due to misuse of the public area.
The action also mentions that Sao Paulo is not fulfilling a clause of the agreement that provided visits from students from the municipal network to the facilities of the CT. “São Paulo Futebol Clube is benefiting economically from the use of public space over all these years, to the detriment of society,” said the prosecutor.
In response, São Paulo informed the G1 that will not comment on the action at this time, but maintains dialogue with the City Hall to ensure compliance with the counterparts. Already the City of São Paulo stated that the areas for the construction of day care centers are already defined and that the negotiations for construction are underway.
