Do you remember the memorable scene in which Totò, in the famous film ‘Poverty and Nobility’, threw himself on the table, grabbing the spaghetti with his hands, even putting them in his pocket to take them away from the other hungry diners? A scene that has remained in the collective imagination just like the plate of pasta with tomato sauce, an undisputed symbol of Italianness, democratic and inclusive by its nature.
From the plate to social media
An all-round protagonist on the Italian table, pasta has always played an aggregative and convivial function within the home. With the advent of digitalisation, that same function is increasingly exercised by social networks where everything related to food, recipes and gastronomy is the protagonist. A virtual table where pasta, needless to say, is the absolute queen. If we had to talk about pasta through a hashtag, it would definitely be #social.
Continuously evolving product and protagonist of countless recipes for every taste and need, thanks to its versatility and goodness, pasta has gone viral on social networks. Riding the wave of new trends, it has proven that it is capable of adapt to every contexteven to the screens of our smartphones and conquering millions of followers.
To celebrate this traditional, but also contemporary food, ‘Gragnano Città della pasta’ was held again this year, from 6 to 8 September 2024, the gastronomic event that celebrates this food in all its forms and formats.

From tradition to innovation

Alongside the visit to the ancient mills and pasta factories of the Campania tradition, starred chefs and food influencers among the most followed on the social media, they performed in the preparation of recipes linked to the territory and more innovative and contemporary gastronomic proposals. In short, participants were offered a journey to discover one of the most photographed, shared and enjoyed foods in the world.
Gragnano city of pasta
The choice of Gragnano (Naples) to celebrate pasta is not random. Here in the 16th century, production began from the union of the best durum wheat semolina with the spring water of the valley, taking advantage of the microclimate present for drying (which took place along the main street of the city). Excellent pasta makers have been able to pass down emotions from generation to generation, combined with small and large secrets to transform two simple natural elements into a unique and inimitable product.
