Retail sales in the second quarter of this year should be 3.21% below those observed in the same period as 2024. In the year since January, the estimated decrease is 1.94%. The projection is from the Ibevar-Sfia Business School research.
The survey, which examines the segments researched by IBGE monthly, projects a drop in volume to 9 among the twelve sectors listed – equivalent to 75%. “These are interesting signs that growth based on anabolized consumption is coming to an end,” said Claudio Felison, president of Ibevar and professor at FIA Business School.
In comparison of the second quarter of this year with the previous one, the largest drops in sales volumes are expected for book, newspapers, magazines and stationery segments (-45.17%), office and communication equipment (-5.40%), personal and domestic (-1.95%) and mobile and appliances (-0.93%).

From January to June, in addition to the above segments, sensitive falls are also expected in cars, motorcycles, parts and parts (-5.39%), pharmacological, doctors, orthopedic and perfumery (-4.59%) and fabrics, clothing and shoes (-2.71%). For construction materials, a retreat of -1.86%is expected.
