The 71st National Film Awards for the 2023 films were announced in New Delhi on Friday. After the announcement, there has been a debate about some category winners. Controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ received the Best Direction and Best Cinematography Award. Many people are now questioning this film after receiving the award.

Fans and social media users are focusing on films that the jury rejected. Malayali fans say that Prithviraj Sukumaran and director Blassi’s’ Adujivitha ‘The Got Life’ was ignored

According to Onmanorama report, Pradeep Nair, the only Malayali representative in the National Film Award Jury, objected to the selection of ‘The Kerala Story’ for the best direction. Pradeep said- ‘As a Malayali in the panel, I raised serious objections. I questioned how the film that defame a state like Kerala and work for propaganda can be considered as a national honor. I also sent my concerns directly to the jury president. But the rest of the members of the jury members argued that even though the film was controversial, it raised a relevant social issue.

‘The Got Life’ received 9 awards at the Kerala State Film Award.

Regarding ‘Adujivasti’, Pradeep Nair said that the chairperson of the jury and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker were concerned about the story and acting of the film directed by Blassi. Jury President Ashutosh Gowariker watched the film at the last film festival held in Goa and had serious concerns about the adoptation and execution of the film. He said, “Gowariker and others also felt that there is no natural in the adoptation and the performance also does not seem authentic.”

Nair further stated that ‘Adujivitha’ was also considered for the best singer and the best lyricist. However, he described the reason for not winning the award in any category of the film. He told that the producer failed to submit the English translation of the lyrics of the song. According to him, the name of actor KR Gokul, who played the role of Hakim in the film, was also considered, but he was also not awarded the award.

Let us know that ‘The Got Life’ director Blassi’s ‘Adujivitha’ was released in the year 2024. The film received a censor certificate on 31 December in the year 2023. In this context, it was eligible for the award. The film is based on the novel of Benyamin. In this, Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the role of Najeeb, who is a Malayali immigrant laborer, who is taken as a slave in Saudi Arabia.
