The film ‘Tanvi the Great’, directed by Anupam Kher, is the story of a girl named Tanvi suffering from autism disorder. Along with direction, Anupam Kher has also acted in the film. After ‘Om Jai Jagdish’, Anupam has returned to the world of direction after 23 years.
Anupam Kher has made this film inspired by his niece. Recently, Anupam Kher and actress Shubhangi Dutt, actor Karan Taker, who played Tanvi in the film, spoke to Dainik Bhaskar. Here is some special excerpt ..
Question- You are bringing the story of such people, which are very much above us in society. Do you deserve congratulations for this?
Answer/ Anupam Kher- Thank you very much. There is no benefit from doing the work that everyone can do. I chose a subject in which I have to claim my life. Mahesh Bhatt Saheb says a very good thing that Truth and Fire do not need anything. Both burn and light. This is what we have tried to do in this film.
At the age of 28, I tried to separate the 65 -year -old old man. When people were wondering what he would do, then I kept my life as an open title. I want people to change the attitude after watching this film.
Question- You have got a chance to play a challenging role at the beginning of career, what would you like to say?
Answer/ Shubhangi Dutt- The entire credit for this goes to Anupam Kher Sir. Sir, I have always been telling me that this is going to be your summary. I completely agree with this. After the summary, Anupam sir signed 40-50 films simultaneously. Anupam sir keeps guiding me and tells that the era of that time was different. I have learned a lot of things from him about acting and life.
Question- What kind of feelings were there when you were selected for the film?
Answer/ Shubhangi Dutt- I could not believe that I have been selected for the film. When she went home and told her mother, she started praying to God that everything should be done well. Mummy said that keep doing her work quietly. Even my friends could not know that I was doing the film.
Anupam Kher- Shubhangi did not even take photos with anyone during the shooting of the film. I did not want someone to come and tell me that Shubhangi was found and we took photographs. Shubhangi took care of this. I think it is very important for the actor to sacrifice something. His hard work, sacrifice and struggle worked. The day I heard the script I heard the climax, I started crying. I was also crying. He was a very magical moment.
Question- What did you see in this film?
Answer/Karan Taker- When Sir told me the story of the film, I thought that part of this film is to be made in every situation. The film may have a small, but very important character. Once Anupam Sir met Neeraj Pandey’s office. Since then, there was a desire to work with Sir. Today it is my luck to get a chance to work with Sir in his direction.
Question- What was the process to play your role?
Answer/ Shubhangi Dutt- I have played the role of a girl suffering from autism disorder in this film. Ever since auditioned for this character. Used to do research on Google to understand this. I saw everyone different. Then asked Anupam sir what should I do to play this character.
He said that you are going to meet Real Tanvi right now. All you have to do is to observe Tanvi. Everything else will be done. I stayed with Tanvi for 15 days and observed her gesture, it helped a lot in understanding the character.
Question- What was your process?
Answer/Karan Taker- I am an untrained actor. For me, the script becomes a textbook. I see how the writer has tried to tell the story. I do not change the lines while speaking the dialogue, because the writer would have written the lines very thinking and the characters will be coined.
Question- Anoop ji, what happened that day when you thought about writing and direction after 23 years after seeing your niece Tanvi?
Answer/Anupam Kher- When our sister told that her daughter was autism, it was not understood. She keeps singing whenever I used to meet her. If I used to ask him to recite a song, I would start immediately. One day, everyone saw in the marriage of brother’s daughter, everyone is singing in their fun. Tanvi was looking at those farthest mountains.
She was then 13 years old. I asked what are you looking at? He said that I am watching my world. I found it very heavy. Started thinking what would be his world, whom would he be looking at? The story of this film was born from there.
Question- Anupam ji, the film was highly appreciated at the New York Film Festival. Hollywood actor Robert de Niro has praised the film a lot. Stars like Shah Rukh, Anil Kapoor and Prabhas are praising the film, what would you like to say?
Answer/Anupam Kher- I remember a dialogue written by Salim Khan. He wrote in a film- The truth is the lamp, which also put it on the top of the mountain, of course it reduces the light, but it appears from far away. This film is that lamp. Whom to put on the top of the mountain, even if you give less light now, it will appear very much. There is no other alternative to truth. People have seen the film anywhere, its basic idea was the truth. The truth always touchs the heart. This is the strength of this film.
Question- How are you feeling Shubhangi?
Answer/ Shubhangi- Right now my sleep has flew away. I am not feeling hungry. Robert de Niro sir saw the film sitting next to me. My focus was not to watch the film at all. Was thinking what would be the reaction of everyone after watching the film. After watching the film, everyone was congratulating me. It was a very different world for me.
Anupam Kher- When Shubhangi first saw her poster on Times Square, she was pagged. During the shooting, she used to rehearses a lot to give interviews. Today it is very proud to see that Shubhangi has done a very good job.
There is a scene in the film in which Tanvi goes to Arvind Swami and says that I am going to one place, so what to do there? They say that your strength is honesty. Answer honestly.
