The English film ‘Mother’, co -produced by 32 -year -old young filmmaker Prateek Bagi of Faridkot in Punjab, will be included in this year’s Venice Film Festival, which is one of the most prestigious cinema events in the world. This festival from 27 August to 6 September

The film is shot in Northern Macedonia, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Bosnia and Herjegovina and India, mainly directed by Macedonian filmmaker Teona Strugar Mitevska. Prateek took over the responsibility of the Indian part of the film. The film depicts the seven important days of Calcutta of 1948 when Mother Teresa was waiting for the Vatican’s decision in which she would be freed from the post of Mother Superior to dedicate themselves to the service of the poor.

The Indian parts of the mother film were shot at the real places in Kolkata, including Howrah Bridge, Bada Bazaar, Kumaratuli Railway Crossing, Southern Avenue, Kalighat, Ahiritola, Lenin Sarani and Loorto Convent and St. Mary’s School at Antali, where Mother Teresa used to live and teach.

The film included most of the alumni of SRFTI from the Indian team, they have worked together with the European team. The film is based on the script written by the acclaimed Macedonian writer Gose Smilevsky.

Proud rebel felt due to recognition on international stage Kolkata -based Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) alumnus, Prateek Baghi, head of Production House Razing Films, Kolkata, said that it is a matter of pride and joy for him too. The grandson of the late freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bagi and the son of lab technician Satish Baghi and teacher Bindu Baghi, Prateek, has made a distinct identity in Indian independent cinema.

His previous films include “Mon Potongo” (2024), “Srishti” (2025) and award winners “Kalkokko” (2021), which received the National Award for Best Bengali Film at the 69th National Film Awards.
