The makers of the film ‘Ajay: The Untold Story of a Yogi’ have reached the Bombay High Court against the Censor Board. The makers have accused the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of delay in approving the film’s release. Makers have moved the Bombay High Court against CBFC against ‘arbitrary’ and ‘vague’ delays.
While hearing the case on Tuesday, a bench of Justice Revathi Mohite Dera and Justice Neela Gokhale issued a notice to CBFC and sought a response. CBFC has sought time to appoint a lawyer.
Taking this inaction seriously, the Bombay High Court has issued a notice to CBFC to appear through its lawyer within two days. It also said that it is necessary to issue a censor certificate within that time. They cannot back down from this responsibility. The next hearing of the case will be on 17 July.

The film is scheduled to release on August 1.
CBFC accused of arbitrariness in petition
Petitioner Emperor Cinematic India Private Limited has challenged the arbitrariness and inaction made by CBFC in taking action on the certification application for the film, its teaser, trailer and promotional songs. He claims that all the necessary documents have been submitted to CBFC at the scheduled time. The petitioners have highlighted the fact that CBFC has demanded a ‘baseless’ demand to bring a no objection certificate from the UP CM office.
The film is scheduled to release in theaters across the country on 1 August 2025. Despite this, CBFC allegedly neither took action on applications nor gave appropriate reply, which is threatening the release.
The petition emphasizes that under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and the newly notified Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, CBFC is mandatory to take action on certification applications within a prescribed statutory time frame. However, the board has failed to take action on the petitioner’s applications even after complete procedural and legal compliance, which has violated its statutory obligations.
The film is based on the book
Let us know that this film is inspired by Shantun Gupta’s book ‘The Monk Hu Bikem Chief Minister’. Which is based on the life of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The film will show the struggles from Yogi Adityanath from childhood to becoming the Chief Minister. The film will have a great mix of drama, emotion, action and sacrifice. This biopic will also introduce the audience to the changing equations of politics, religion and society.
