Filmmaker Anurana Roy has received the Best Director Award for her first film ‘Songs of Foregotton Trees’. This honor was given to him at the Venice International Film Festival.

The film was presented by Anurag Kashyap. It took place in the Orignti Competition section of the premiere festival. This section is for films that bring out new trends and new talent. This time focus was on debut films, Indie features and low -recognized cinema.

Regarding the award, Anuparna said that the film is dedicated to every woman who was once silenced, ignored or less judged. I hope that this victory and more voices, stories and strengths are revealed.

The story of the film is about a migrant girl named Thoy. She wants to become an actress and lives in the city with her beauty and understanding. Sometimes she also uses personal relationships to get good opportunities.

Anuparna Roy started his career as an assistant director in a short film ‘Run to the River’ in 2023.

She rents her sugar daddy’s apartment to Swetha. Svetha is also a migrant and does a corporate job. The two gradually feel connected to each other, despite being from different worlds.

The story shows how his understanding increases quietly between Mumbai crowds and noise. When their personal things, desires and old wounds are revealed, this relationship is tested. Instead of breaking, it gradually turns into a new relationship.
