‘Inspector Jhende’ is not just a crime thriller, but the story of a true hero, which has been launched by actor Manoj Bajpayee on the screen. The length of this film is 1 hour 52 minutes. Dainik Bhaskar has rated the film a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Story
The story of Inspector Jhende is inspired by the famous case of real police officer Madhukar Bapurao Jhende. Set in 1986 Mumbai, this film shows the exercise to catch the criminal, which people called swimsuit killer i.e. Karl Bhojraj (Jim Sarbh).
Jhende (Manoj Bajpayee) is a very simple police officer, whose life is also like the rest of the middle class people. When it is reported that Carl has escaped from jail, he again gets the responsibility of catching him. After this, the comedy filled thriller race from Mumbai to Goa. Where the conflict between the police and the criminal is not a traditional hero-willa battle, but the race full of jokes and mistakes.
Direction and writing
Director Chinmay de Mandlekar has tried to balance the film between truth and joke. The Nauretor says in the beginning. The film is based on the true story, which may look false. It is from here that the story will be told in a lighter satirical tone.
Chinmay’s biggest plus is that instead of making the story over-the-top, he kept a lot of connecting the ground. The policemen are not shown to be the hero, but like a common man who is afraid in the first flight, who has less money, and who goes to Goa’s pub and keeps names like Rushi Kapoor and Om Raut. These small things make the film real and fun.
But the weakness is that the film could not make balance everywhere. Many times comedy looks forced and the thriller scenes become like parody. The edge and sharpness that was expected is missing in many places.
technical aspects
Cinematography: Vishal Sinha’s camera was successful in showing Mumbai-Goa of the 80s. Sepia tone and local locations give the film real taste.
Production Design: Rajesh Chaudhary’s work is worth praising. Police station, chawl, old cars and Goa clubs seem real at all time.
Editing: The length of the film (1 hour 52 minutes) is correct, but some place cuttings look loose.
Background Music: This is the biggest disappointment. A good BGM could make the chase scenes exciting, but the music here remains flat and faded here.
acting
Manoj Bajpayee- His decent acting and dry comic timing is the biggest attraction of the film.
Gym Sarbh- Powerful in the role of smart and dangerous criminals. His style and tone gives classes to the film.
Girija Oak- She wins the heart in the role of an innocent and relative wife.
Bhalchandra Kadam and other Marathi artists- maintain lightness with their comic timing.
Decision
Inspector Jende Masala is not a action film. It is a different type of co-comedy, in which the culprit is also stylish and policemen are also seen with human weaknesses. There are moments of laughter, but do not resonate every time. If you want to see Manoj Bajpayee in a different and funny way and there is a mood for a light-hearted thriller, then this film is once worth watching.
