Elections are to be held on August 15 for the leadership of Malayalam Movie Artist Association (AMMA). Before the election, actress and former IC member Mala Parvati has made a new disclosure. In an interview to Manorama News, Mala Parvati said that after the report of Hema Committee, Joint Secretary Baburaj refused to step down, after which superstar Mohanlal was forced to resign from AMMA leadership. Baburaj is now contesting for the post of general secretary.

In an interview to Manorama News, she says- ‘For the last several years, we have seen that the accused persons have been removed from key positions. This has become clear in AMMA since the case of actor Dilip came to light. Vijay Babu, who was accused of sexual abuse. He was asked to resign and we hope that Baburaj will do the same.

Mohanlal had to leave the post as Giant Secretary Baburaj was not ready to do so. However, artists like Ansiba and Saryu have allegedly stated that accused actor can participate in the association elections. Just like the accused leaders also participate in the elections. At that time everyone resigned sharedly.

In June this year, a report by Asianet claimed that Mohanlal refused to contest the posts, while the Hawk Committee was pressurizing him to continue its term. He allegedly told the association that if he conducts fresh elections to fill the empty space, he will not contest elections. Initially there was talk on whether the old committee should be allowed to continue without voting.

Let me tell you that after the report of Justice Hema Committee on August 19 last year, many artists including Malayalam Movie-Artist Association (AMMA) general secretary and famous actor Siddiqui were accused of sexual harassment on many artists including director Ranjit, Mukesh, Manianpila Raju, Idvela Babu and Jayasuriya.

After this, on 27 August 2024, 17 members, including AMMA President and South Superstar Mohanlal, resigned from their posts. Also, the Malayalam Movie Artist Association (AMMA) was dissolved.
