June 14, 2024 – PlayStation has announced the return of the popular game, “Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance”. The game is set in post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Atlus, the game’s developer, has updated the battle systems. They have also added new demon experiences.

“Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance” is an enhanced re-release of the 2021 Nintendo Switch title. It will launch worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are currently available.

The game features two scenarios. The “Canon of Creation” is the full story of the original game. The “Canon of Vengeance” is a new story created for this release. Both scenarios start with the same premise. However, the plotline of the “Canon of Vengeance” changes drastically during the second half of the game.

In the new scenario, Shinjuku’s map has a different layout. It hides the entrance to a new dungeon called Shakan. This is a sacred space related to Bethel where angels and strange mechanisms stand in the way of intruders.

More demons are available to choose as navigator during exploration. The skill Estoma now requires Magatsuhi Gauge instead of MP. It isn’t limited by the moon phase. The abscesses, points where strong foes are stationed, no longer prevent players from viewing a part of the map.

The new demons added to the game include three entities from African mythology. These are Enigma Onyankopon, Genma Anansi, and Dragon Nyami Nyami. They were never featured in previous Shin Megami Tensei games. Demi-fiend, the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei III, can now be recruited in the player’s party.

“Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance” adds more subquests to the ones already present in the original release. It also introduces timed quests that must be completed prior to a certain point of the story. Other subquests allow the player to temporarily control a demon instead of the protagonist.

The level limit of the protagonist and its allies, normally 99, can now be raised up to 150. This is thanks to the new miracle “Moral Transcendence”. There are consumables allowing to reallocate the stat points gained by the protagonist upon leveling up.

Another new addition is the Virtual Trainer. This allows players to fight against previously encountered bosses. It has different modes with varying level of difficulty. After clearing the game, players can choose which data to carry over during their subsequent playthroughs.
