Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ is already in controversy before its release. The trailer of the film was scheduled to be launched in Kolkata on 16 August but the trailer launch has been canceled just a day before the program. This has been claimed by the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri. He says that the multiplex has taken such a step under political pressure.

Vivek has given this information about this on X on social media platforms. He wrote in the caption of the video post- ‘I have just reached Kolkata and it was found that the program of trailer launch of #TheBengalfiles has been canceled. Who wants to suppress our voice? And why? But I cannot be silenced. Because the truth cannot be silenced. The trailer will be launched in Kolkata itself. Share this video and support our free speech (freedom of expression).

In the video, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri raised the question and says why the ruling party is trying to suppress voices and stop the truth. He appealed to the citizens, especially the youth to see ‘The Bengal files’ and know the hidden truths. Referring to years of research and his trust on the judiciary, Vivek recently made many world premiers in the US. He said that he propagated the film quietly and respectfully, yet by putting political pressure, efforts are on to suppress the truth.

Let us know that this film has been engulfed in controversies since the teaser was released. Several members of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC had filed several FIRs against director Vivek Agnihotri, producer Abhishek Aggarwal and actress-producer Pallavi Joshi of showing objectionable content. However, the High Court later gave interim relief by prohibiting all FIRs.

After the FIR was registered, Vivek announced that he would launch the trailer of the film in Kolkata, West Bengal, where the FIR was lodged.

The film is part of Vivek’s Files Trilogy, including The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files.

The story and direction of The Bengal files is done by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. While its producers are Abhishek Aggarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. It will feature Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumar in important roles. The film is presented by Tej Narayan Aggarwal and IM Buddha Productions and will be released in theaters on 5 September 2025.
