Filmmaker Boney Kapoor has filed a petition in the Madras High Court, alleging that three persons are trying to assert illegal authority over his late wife Sridevi’s property in Chennai. Boney has accused the three of cheating in his petition.

According to a report by The Hindu, Bonnie stated in his petition that the disputed property located on the East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai was reportedly bought by Sridevi on 19 April 1988 from a person named MC Sambanda Mudaliar. Mudaliar’s family had divided the property by mutual consent in 1960 and based on this family system, the actress acquired the plot in a legal manner.

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi married in June 1996.

However, Boney claims that a woman and her two sons have recently started asserting legal rights over the plot. The woman alleges that she is the second wife of a son of Mudaliar and married her in 1975. Bonnie challenged the validity of this claim and argued that the first wife of the person was alive until 1999, making the alleged second marriage legally illegal.

At the same time, Boney also questioned the jurisdiction of Tambaram Taluk Tehsildar, who issued a legal succession certificate to the three persons. He urged the court to cancel the certificate and stop the ownership transfer. Taking cognizance of the petition, Justice N. Anand Venkatesh directed Tambaram Tehsildar to review the case and take a decision within four weeks. Currently, this ECR property is used as a family farm house.
