Actor Boman Irani’s son Kayoj Iranian is making his directorial debut with the film ‘Sarjmin’. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan are seen in the lead roles along with this film Kajol. It is an emotional thriller film based on issues like Desh and Family, which is being produced by Karan Johar. The film has streamted on Jio Hotstar on 25 July. The film’s actor Prithviraj Sukumaran and director Kayoz have had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar.

Prithvi, you have played the role of Soldier before and have done a lot of action films. What was the reason for choosing Vijay Menon’s character?

Earth- This is the reason. I liked the script very much. As an actor, filmmaker, producer, every film, which you say yes, is the story behind it. That story draws you. Not because the story attracts you as an actor, director and producer but you like the story as a cinema lover and audience.

I really felt that the Service has a very interesting, complex and human story said on the magnificent background of patriotism, nation, extremism and Kashmir. I felt that it had the ability to become a wonderful part of cinema. I really believe as an actor that it gave me a lot of chance to go into the depth of the character and this is something that excites you as an actor.

There is also a truth that Karan Johar is producing this film. Till that time I did not know Kayoz. I met them later and I am happy that Kayoz is directing this film. The screen you will see on the screen on 25 July is completely their vision. I believe that it can be the most powerful debut of a filmmaker.

Kayoz, family and patriotism are a great concept. Why did you choose this theme for your debut?

See, I was first sent by Karan sir as a 50 -page outline to the script. I started reading the script in the morning. By the time I reached the mid point of the script, I had decided that I was doing this film. I am not doing this film because of a back drop or its scale. The dynamic of the family in this film found me personal. I felt that there is something inside me, due to which I want to bring this story to people. Actually, what I was feeling in the film was not a scream, but a tear. I wanted people to cry instead of chopping the chest in the last of the film.

When it comes to any film, I think you see a big canvas. But how will you connect yourself to the film? How do you make it personal for yourself? So it is a family and emotion. This film is actually an emotional thriller. Emotion is the first word in this. I liked this concept very much. I was ready to do this while reading the script.

Kayoz, tell about the process of choosing Starcast for this film?

I start with Ibrahim. I went to Delhi on the set ‘Rocky and Rani Ki Prem Kahani Ki’. Ibrahim was an assistant director on that set. I was sitting on the monitor, at that time Ibrahim was doing a stand in for Ranveer Singh. When I saw that, only one thought that the camera likes him. It has screen presence. I was unable to remove my eyes from him. At lunch, I was sitting with Karan Sir and I talked about Ibrahim. He said that I also think the same for Ibrahim.

Karan sir called me for Prithvi Sir and said why are you not considering his name? I did my research with them and after that I did not delay in sealing their names. It was my decision to take them in the film, due to which the film got shape. Because Sir really brought a lot to the film. This is also his film as a director. I would like to say one thing that I have been taking feedback from the head. Whenever I sent him a song, trailer, teaser or unit and the feedback that came to him was never about him. It has always been about something else. Prithviraj sir is like Dua, which I needed in this film.

And for this film I just wanted Kajol Maam. I went to him to narrate the story. After listening to the story, he just gave smile and I left and left from there. When I reached home, I got a call from Karan sir and told that Kajol Maam liked the story so much that he had said yes.

Kayoz, there is not a single dialogue of Ibrahim in the trailer, what was the strategy behind it?

There was no strategy behind it. If you watch the film too, it is not that we have cut their dialogue. Or it is not that we have done some protects. Silence works better in putting suspense in Ibrahim’s character and creating more mistrust towards it.

You can also ask Prithvi Sir, when I read the story before Ibrahim’s casting, there were less dialogues. Right now we have added his dialogue to the film. The trailer of this film is also not a traditional cut. When I read in the comment of the trailer, I realized that he did not have a good dialogue. I did not think Ibrahim needed a dialogue. I think he has created complete suspense with his eyes.

The audience says that seeing Kajol in the trailer, ‘Fana’ is coming to see Prithviraj and ‘Mission-Kashmir’ vibi. What would you both say?

Prithviraj- All three are the best films. At least I believe this because the audience has given so much love to all three films. So it can be. If you are hoping that it will be like any of these films, then perhaps it will be disappointed.

Kayoz- When any film is released, it is compared. This film is original. And whatever is being compared, I will be very grateful to reach the heights of this film. This film is not close to any of them.

Share your experience of working with Prithvi, Kajol

Was a great experience working with him. I liked the time spent on the set as an actor and a person. I was just telling someone that Kajol is like caffeine’s overdose on the set, which is really good. They are fantastic. He is a talented artist. The most happy moment as an actor is when you realize that you are better in the scene because of the actor. This is the biggest praise given by any actor to his Kalig.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kajol will be seen together for the first time.

I really believe that I have many moments in the land in which I have been able to get better due to the scene Kajol has done. And you realize why he is still at such a height because his process is very comfortable as an actor. They are naturally very talented. I am thankful that I got a chance to work with him. The land will always be special for me because of this, I got a chance to work with Kajol for the first time.

Any memorable thing about the set would you like to share both?

Earth- This preval, which I have received many times in my career. But I think during the shooting of this film, while shooting a special scene, I witnessed a moment where the debut actor suddenly realized and sure that he was actually in front of the camera.

Kayoz- I just remember shooting the climax of the film. I can’t tell you what happened in it. There were Ibrahim, Prithvi Sir and Kajol Mam. I remember that day was over and I went out of that thing. I felt such happiness that I had never felt before.

I know from the heart that it will work. If this does not work, it means that I am wrong. I do not deserve to be a director. And that moment I really found cinematic. We have enjoyed a lot in this film. Glycerin was cut after crying. We used to sit and laugh. We used to do comedy on the set.
