Padmini Kolhapure, the famous actress of the 80s, appeared in many best films like Prem Rog, she seven days. She is seen in the role of Rajmata in Sony TV’s grand show ‘Chakravarti Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan’.
Padmini has recently interacted with Dainik Bhaskar on her comeback and film journey. Read the major part of the conversation-
Question- What was the role of Rajmata in the show ‘Chakravarti …’ that attracted you?
answer- I have already done a small cameo on TV, but now I am very happy to return with the grand story of ‘Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan’ on Sony TV. The curiosity and waiting of the audience has inspired me to work harder. When the production house talked about making a show on Prithviraj Chauhan, my hair stood up on hearing. After understanding the role of Rajmata in the journey from an innocent prince to the great warrior king of Prithviraj Chauhan, I immediately said yes.

Question- Have you done any research to understand the character?
answer- After saying yes, I did a lot of research to understand the story of Prithviraj Chauhan deeply. Read historical stories and saw a lot about him on Google. As an actor it is our duty to try to get into the depth of the character besides the script. They also have an animated programs for children, which shows that he was also an interesting warrior for children. The rest of the historical films and shows have an impact on the brain.
There are also films made on Marathi shows like Chhatrapati Shivaji and Shambhaji. All these get a special aura which belonged to the queens or women of that era. Rajmata was also the guide of Prithviraj Chauhan, who had a profound influence in her upbringing and becoming a great warrior.
Question- Any role that has been very close to your heart, which is an all-time favorite?
answer- I have been in the industry for 5 decades. I started as a playback singer, then came into acting. Some of my films and characters have been very close to my heart, such as ‘Pyaar Jhoota Nahi’, ‘Saat Din’, ‘Prem Disease’, and ‘Ahista Ahista’.

Question- Your chemistry with Mithun Chakraborty was always a hit. Does it ever talk when you ever come together?
answer- There is a rule in our industry that if the film becomes a hit with an actor, they continuously sign films with them. After the success of ‘Pyaar Bhoota Nahi’, I and Mithun had a line of producers. There is talk on a new film with Mithun, but only one round meeting has been held.

Question- Does it seem that very good, strong roles are being written in cinema for Veteran actresses?
answer- I have worked with veteran artists like Meena Kumari ji, Nargis Aunty, Nutan Aunty, Nanda Ji in our era and in the earlier era. At that time various oriented, women -oriented films were made. Now while writing the story, a heroine is kept in mind. Nowadays there are so many heroines that producers and directors have many options. Very few producers or directors are left who make films for passion or love, most people think of box office. That round was different, this round is different. It is very important to have an evolution and the trend that is going on nowadays, you have to walk with it.
Question- One of your anecdote was very popular. Rishi Kapoor who slaps Sir. He was in ‘love disease’?
answer- During a scene in ‘Prem Rog’, Rishi ji was angry, was getting retake. He said, “I will definitely take revenge for this. We had another film ‘Rahi Badal Gaya’, in which Rishi ji had to slap me. He said,” Now that time has come. I told him myself, “Please slap you, otherwise the impact that does not come on the screen does not come. However, he did not get much opportunities, that scene became OK in the same tech.

Question- You do acting but have you ever wanted to write or directed?
answer- Direction, father! I have one of my own clothing labels, ‘Padma Sita’. I am interested in this, so I am doing this. Women have more influence in my life, so I make garments for women. Apart from this, I am also fond of singing. I used to sing earlier, I and my sister Shivangi have done playback singing. Recently there was Laxmikant-Pyarelal Night in the US, I also sang songs. Lata Mangeshkar looks my aunt. My father also used to sing, he was a musician.
Question- Will you be seen further in any Marathi cinema?
answer- I have done Marathi films. I had a Marathi film ‘Chimney Pakhar’ my real comeback. Which I probably did in 2000. People still remember him. After that I also did a film called ‘Migration’, which was with Ashok Saraf ji and released in 2020. Right now my husband is planning a film for me in Marathi. Currently, I am also doing a Hindi film ‘Jhadfunk’ in Dehradun, which is a psychological thriller. Yashpal Sharma ji is with me and Rajan Verma is the director.
