The film ‘Sarjmeen’ on the tangled relationship between patriotism and father-son has streamted on Jio Hotstar. In the film, Prithviraj Sukumaran is seen sharing the screen with Kajol for the first time. At the same time, Ibrahim Ali is seen in the role of his son. The film is directed by Kayoz Irani. In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Kayoj has spoken about the experience of working with Earth and the challenges of directions. At the same time, Prithvi has shared the experience of shooting at real location as an actor.
Prithvi, you said in Bhaskar interview that you like to shoot at real location as a director. How difficult is this as an actor?
It is like a blessing to shoot at real location as an actor. Sarzamin is not only the film that is shot on the studio green screen. Whatever you see in the land, everything is real. We have shot this film at real location. Kayoz has imposed its effort to find these places. Even the climax is shot at a really challenging location. That was also a real location, which is present somewhere at a distance of 2 hours from Manali. In fact, I would like to thank Kayoz that because of him I got 3 locations for ‘Lucifer 2’. I have gone to Manali many times but I did not even know that such places are really.

‘Sarajmin’ has been shot at real location in Manali.
You see this poster, there was really very cold. While we were shooting, there was a cold gathering. When we were speaking the dialogue, we were steam coming out of our mouth. Such things help you show you a better actor. I will then say that this is a blessing as an actor. Yes, but as a filmmaker and crew it is very difficult. I will give the full number to Kayoz and the entire team to shoot this film by planning a good plan. Actually, Sarajmin was the best plan and the best executed shoot, which I have been part.
Both of you have come under direction from acting. Does this help at all?
Kayoz- See, I have done a film as an actor so far. I did not want to do the film. I had dissected in school that I would become a director. When my first film was over, I returned to the direction. I am also thankful for my acting experience. When you have a foot in someone’s shoes, then you learn what the front is feeling. I learned what Ibrahim must have felt on his debut because I also made my debut as an actor. But the desire for my life was always to become a director. Sitting in the chair behind the monitor is like a home for me. I want to live in the same place.
Kayoz, did you get any advice from Earth in direction? If yes, tell about it.
Prithvi sir has not received one or two, many decorations have been found. Prithvi Sir is the co-director of this film during promotion. I discuses every scene every day. We spoke on lighting, short division. More than that, we talked about the meaning of scenes and they brought a lot in it. I am saying this from the heart. Many times I used to say that no it is not in my mind but by coming to the monitor, I used to agree with them.
It is a big thing to have them in the film. He never asked me to change anything in his character. Whatever changes or advice he gave was for Ibrahim, supporting cast or camera. I would like to say that if a director is making his debut, please cast Prithviraj Sukumaran. I understood how helpful he has been for me.

Kayoz has acted in the 2012 film Student of the Year.
Kayoz, you have directed Ed, Short and now the feature film. How difficult is it to work in all three formnts?
Directation work is very challenging but this is the challenge I like. My life is the happiest day when I am on the set. As far as the most challenging is concerned, it is the most difficult to shoot a feature film without any doubt. Because Advertisement has now taken a new turn. You have to please the client, agency. The short film is actually very easy because there is no restriction on you. Make what you are in your heart. The feature would always have been difficult but I always say that my worst day of ‘Sarajmin’ is better for me than any other day.
Kajol has a dialogue in the film, no matter how much the mother loves, the son wants to be like her father. How much do you relax it in real life?
Earth- I believe that every boy considers his father as an ideal in his life at least once. He wanted to be like his father. If this is not the case, the father has really done something wrong. This thing really matters to me. I have always considered my father as ideal. I always wanted to be like him. My father was an actor. His stardom, success, money or fame was nothing behind him. As a son, I considered his personality away from cinema to be really ideal. He was an academician. They were like homes. His personal personality was ideal for me. I love my mother very much.

Both Prithviraj’s mother-father is the known name of the Malayalam industry. His father Sukumaran died at the age of 49.
I love my mother very much. When I was growing up, I was Mama Boy. But I have always idealized my father. This is true for the boy almost every big.
Kayoz- This dialogue is very close to me for me. I agree with this line hundred percent. It was not that it looks good, so make it a dialogue. I am also a full Mama Boys. I keep doing mother-mom all the time but you wish to be like your father. And really not an actor, fame or their stardom. I aspire to become the same person in my house too, like they are. When my father saw my film, I told him that this line is for you.
Your father Boman Irani has stepped into directions and writing. Will you also go towards writing and did you get any help in direction?
I really believe that a director has to do everything and he does not get a credit for anything. When the script comes to you, you have to write the director draft and the way you see it. When you block shots, you tell the cinematographer that you want shots like this. This does not mean that you take a credit for it. This process is very important as a director because it is your job. You are the only person on the set who has no fixed role. All you have to do is mold and shape it.

As far as writing is concerned, I love writing. I like writing process and I am sitting with writers but please give me his zero credit. Papa has done a cameo in this film. He has shot with us for three to four days. They have persecuted me a lot.
