Shakti Kapoor… A name that scared people in Hindi cinema as a villain, sometimes won the hearts of people with his comic timing. Then whether it is Nandu’s gun or crime master Gogo, he killed in every character.

Since childhood, Shakti Kapoor was fond of playing cricket, but her father wanted him to handle a clothes shop. He was not happy with this and often started getting upset. In such a situation, his friends quietly filled the form of the film institute and the story of Bollywood becoming the biggest villain started from here.

Today, on the 73rd birthday of Shakti Kapoor, know some interesting stories related to his life…

Was from middle class family, father wanted clothes shop

Shakti Kapoor belonged to a middle class family. His father used to run a clothing shop at Connaught Place in Delhi. He had different units to prepare clothes. His father wanted him to handle the shop after completing his studies, because he felt that Shakti could run it well.

However, Shakti was interested in sports since childhood, especially in cricket. He played cricket till the state level and was admitted to Kirori Mal College under sports quota. Shakti never wanted to sit at the shop. He wanted to do business of tour and travel, due to which he often had a fight with his father.

Friends came in films due to friends, filled the admission form without asking

Shakti always kept going in his mind that he would have to handle his father’s shop. Thinking this, he often started getting upset. He also told this to friends. Some of his friends were filling the form of film institute ‘FTII’ (Film and Television Institute of India), so he also filled the form of Shakti Kapoor. Till that time, Shakti had no special interest in acting.

After some time, a letter came to his house, asking for FTII to come to Delhi for the retain Test. At first he was surprised how this happened. When asked by friends, he told all the things and asked him to go along to give the test.

After this he went to take a test with friends. Later he was called for audition, so he also reached to give. During the audition, he noticed that veteran actor Ashok Kumar (Dada Muni), actress Kamini Kaushal and famous director Rishikesh Mukherjee were seated. Had to perform in front of them. Seeing such big names, he first touched his feet and his mind was very happy that he got an opportunity to meet such people.

He was sure that nothing was going to happen here, so he did not get nervous and started speaking his dialogues. During this time, about 48,000 people from all over the country gave the test, but the selection was to be only 10 boys. Only three boys from Delhi were selected Anil Dhawan, Naseeruddin Shah and Shakti Kapoor.

Shakti Kapoor’s selection shocked his friends and he felt that perhaps the selection was done by paying money. Shakti Kapoor later told his mother that she has been selected in FTII and has now been called for the screen test. He reached Pune and also passed the screen test.

Mithun Chakraborty had ragging, weeping Shakti had apologized

When Shakti Kapoor was leaving Delhi and going to FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) in Pune, he met a man in the train, who himself was going to get admission there. During the journey, both of them became good friendship. Since there was some time to start the course, the friend was going to Mumbai to attend his sister’s wedding and Shakti Kapoor also went with him.

In Mumbai, he came to know that the wedding is of Pramod Khanna, brother of the then famous actor Vinod Khanna. Many Bollywood celebrities including Rakesh Roshan were present at the wedding. Seeing this, Shakti Kapoor also started feeling like a star.

In an interview to DD Urdu, Shakti Kapoor said, “When we reached Pune, I had a beer in my hand and I was very happy that I had already become a star.” On reaching the hostel, I saw that a boy was standing, whose dhoti had so many holes that it was difficult to count. He was dark, but his body was strong and Hatti-Katti. He saw Rakesh Roshan and bowed down and touched his feet.

Then I asked the boy to drink beer, but he refused and said that it is not allowed in the institute. Then he introduced himself and said that I am Mithun Chakraborty. When Rakesh Roshan and Pramod Khanna left from there, he took me to the hostel room. Some seniors were already present there.

Everyone ragged me together. Cut the hair and took it to the pool and ran. I got very nervous. I remembered God at that moment. I thought I was trapped. It is wrong. I was regretting. Started crying and started saying that I had to go back to Delhi. I do not want to be an actor. Pardon me However, after this Mithun Chakraborty came forward and helped me. He told the seniors to end the matter here.

Vinod Khanna’s bungalow stayed in Struggle days

When Shakti was studying in FTII, Pune, director Arjun Hingorani came to take class one day. He offered Shakti for his film ‘Khel Khiladi Ka’ there. He accepted this proposal and this is where his acting career started.

Shortly after, he completed his studies from FTII and then came to Mumbai. Initially, he started living in a PG in Santa Cruz area, but luck was always with him. As soon as Vinod Khanna came to know that Shakti Kapoor was living in PG, he immediately called him and said, “Don’t stay in PG, come and stay in my bungalow.”

After this, Shakti Kapoor stayed in Vinod Khanna’s bungalow for almost four years. During this time he also started modeling and took steps towards making his mark in the industry. Shakti Kapoor was a great fan of two veteran actors Denny Dengeongpa and Ranjit.

Especially Ranjit played an important role in Shakti Kapoor’s career. He was the one who got him the film ‘Darwaza’. The two continued to struggle together and worked hard to make their place in the industry.

A car accident changed luck in film world

As soon as Shakti Kapoor received money from modeling, he bought a Fiat car for 11 thousand rupees. He used to go on shooting with this car. One day when he was going for shooting, his car was an accident. The car was badly damaged. Angry Shakti Kapoor got out of the car. Shakti was surprised to see the person who came out of the second car, because he was none other than the famous actor Feroz Khan.

Seeing this, Shakti Kapoor was shocked and immediately apologized. During the conversation, he also told Feroz Khan about himself. After this both left from there. Shakti reached KK Shukla’s house in the evening. Shukla’s wife, Shakti’s mouth was a sister, due to which mutual relations were like family.

During the conversation, KK Shukla said, I was about to talk about the role for you in a film. Feroze is searching for a brown eye boy who got out of the car in anger. A special type of villain was sharp in his face and eyes.

Hearing this, Shakti Kapoor shouted happily and said, I am the boy who had an accident of Feroz Khan’s car today. After this, Shukla immediately called Feroz Khan and told about Shakti Kapoor. In this way, a simple car accident became the turning point of Shakti Kapoor’s career.

He played Villain in Feroz Khan’s superhit film ‘Kurbani’, which came in 1980. After this, both of them appeared together in many films like raw diamonds, jambaz and two -time roti.

Shakti Kapoor had no match in Villain’s characters in the 80s.

Three slaps on the set of the film, wanted to leave the film industry

Shakti Kapoor was constantly playing the role of Villain. He was getting the same roll offers. In such a situation, he felt that he should not be typical. Then he changed his genre and decided to try his hand in comedy.

But there was a time here when he felt that now the film industry should be left. Actually, during the shooting of the film ‘Mawali’, he worked with Aruna Irani, Kader Khan and Jeetendra. On the first day of the shooting, when the first shot took place, Aruna Irani slapped him a loud slap. In the second shot, Jeetendra slapped and Kader Khan did the same in the third shot.

Shakti Kapoor got upset after consuming three slaps. He went to Fight Master Veeru Devgan (Ajay Devgan’s father) and said, I am a villain of the top, but here I am slapping. I do not want to do this film. Not only this, he also thought of leaving the industry.

He was then explained that this is a very good film. It is a remake of a Telugu film and his character is quite strong. After this Shakti Kapoor returned to the set again and gave the perfect shot. The film was a superhit and people liked his role very much. After this film, the pair of Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor became a hit.

Lata Mangeshkar’s marriage to her niece

Shivangi Kolhapuri has been a famous actress of the 80s. That vowel is a niece of Kokila Lata Mangeshkar. Shivangi and Shakti Kapoor first met during the shooting of the film Kismet, released in 1980. First there was a friendship between the two, which gradually turned into love. Shivangi is 12 years younger than Shakti Kapoor and this age difference became a major reason for his parents’ displeasure.

Shivangi’s parents were strongly against this relationship. He had even put the daughter in the house, but despite this, both of them ran away from home in 1982 and got married. In Timeout with Ankit Podcast, Shakti Kapoor said that there was also a cultural difference between him and Shivangi, causing Shivangi’s parents uncomfortable.

Apart from this, he had a misunderstanding because of the negative characters played by Shakti Kapoor in films that he is the same in real life. However, after the birth of son Siddhant, Shivangi’s parents finally accepted the relationship. And then in 1987, both daughter Shraddha Kapoor was born.
