The real strength of this film was his emotional story. The whole story was around Thakur, when his hands are cut off. We all get entangled in Jai-Viru’s words, but the real story was of an honest police officer who goes out of a robber to avenge the murder of his family. He keeps two useless people, and in the real end he kills Gabbar, but had to change the ending due to emergency. Now that original ending is found, in which he crushes Gabbar with his feet and then weeps.

The film ‘Sholay’ released on 15 August 1975 was directed by Ramesh Sippy.
Farhan also told that his father Javed Akhtar, who wrote Sholay with Salim Khan, was not happy with this change.
Farhan said,

When Papa and Salim Saheb had to change the ending, they started joking that now the villagers, police, all have come, just the postman has remained. He did not understand the arrival and ending of the police, but was compulsion.
