Lyricist and stand-up comedian Varun Grover recently recalled his early struggles of his career, saying that he had written several fake fan letters for a show.
Scroll In an interview given to, Varun told that in the early days of his career, he had ghost writing for Star Plus show ‘Behind’. In this show, anchor used to read fan letters, but most of the letters were not of real fans. He and his partner Rahul Patel had to write all the letters.
Varun said, “It is easy to get the work of writing in Mumbai, but it is difficult to get a name and good money as a screen writer. It takes time. It takes time. No one becomes an actor for free, but a writer can be made for free because people think anyone can write.”
Please tell that Varun’s work was not just to write a letter. They also prepared the anchor’s reply, which were read on-air. Varun said, “We used to write most of the letters ourselves. We used to write the answer too. The anchor would say that this letter has been sent by a fan of Ahmedabad.”

Recently, Varun has also started directing with the film ‘All India Rank’.
A funny incident happened during this time. A letter was asked in a letter that Tulsi Virani i.e. Smriti Irani of ‘Because Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ really likes Khichdi as shown in the show. On this question the camera camera went to the memory and he replied with full heart. Varun said, “She used to answer very honestly.”
Please tell that in exchange for so much work, Varun and his partner used to get very little money. He used to get only 2500 rupees per episode. That is, both of them together at Rs 1250 per episode. A total of 5000 rupees were received, including four episodes of the month.
At the same time, the official writer of the show was given Rs 15,000 per episode. Varun said, “We told him to give at least 3000 rupees so that we feel a little respect, but he never believed.”
Varun did Ghost Writing for about a year. After this, in 2004, he got an identity as a writer in the comedy show ‘The Great Indian’. Then he did many comedy shows, in which everyone’s fry, Ranveer Vinay and who?, OA! It’s Friday! And in 2008 Salman Khan’s show 10 was included.

In 2015, Varun Grover wrote the film ‘Masaan’.
Varun gradually started working for films. Varun Grover wrote dialogues for Ghoom (2006) and Accident on Hill Road (2009). She then recognized as a lyricist for films like that girl in Yellow boots (2011), Paddlers and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012).
Varun Grover was awarded the National Film Award in 2016. He received the Best Lyricist Award for the song ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhage’ from the film ‘Dam Lagake Haisha’.
Apart from this, his songs were popular in projects like ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Newton’, ‘Sui Dhaaga’ and ‘Sonchiraiya’.
