The film ‘The Kerala Story’, directed by Sudipto Sen, received the Best Director and Best Cinematography Award at the 71st National Film Award, after which the Kerala government strongly criticized it. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned this decision and described it as an insult to the great tradition of Indian cinema.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared a post on X. In this, he wrote, giving respect to a film that shows wrong things with the intention of tarnishing the image of Kerala and spreading communal hatred, it is a matter of great concern. The jury of the National Film Awards has recognized a story that is based on the ideology of the Sangh Parivar.

He further wrote, Kerala is a state that is always known for mail-joy, peace and brotherhood. This decision has insulted Kerala and the people there. This is not just the Malayalis, but the concern of every person who believes in the values of democracy and constitution. We should raise their voice against it together.

Apart from this, Kerala Education Minister V. Shivnakutty has also given his reaction in this matter. He congratulated the winners Urvashi, Vijayaraghavan and Christo Tommy, who won the National Film Awards from Kerala, but criticized the decision to give the award to ‘The Kerala Story’.

He said, Honoring the film ‘The Keral Story’, which is hate and baseless allegations, reduces the dignity of all other awards.
