Harshvardhini Ranya is professionally known as Ranya Rao.

Kannada film actress Ranya Rao has been fined by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in the gold smuggling case.

According to DRI sources, co-accused Tarun Kondraju was fined Rs 63 crore and Jewelers Sahil Sakariya Jain and Bharat Kumar Jain were fined Rs 56-56 crore.

According to PTI news, on Tuesday, DRI officials reached Bangalore Central Jail and gave 250 -page notice and 2,500 -page annexure to each accused. “It was a very hard work to prepare a 11,000 -page documentation.”

Ranya Rao was caught with gold while returning from Dubai on 3 March. Ranya was sentenced to one year in jail in July. This punishment was recommended under the Prevention of Forex Protection and Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA).

The case was heard in the High Court on Tuesday. The court has adjourned the next hearing for September 11.

Please tell that when Ranya was sentenced in the month of July, he was not given the right to bail during the entire period of punishment.

Earlier on May 20, a Bangalore court granted a default bail to Ranya and co-accused Tarun Raju on procedural bases.

The reason for this was that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence i.e. DRI could not file the charge sheet within the stipulated time.

The court granted both of them a bond of Rs 2 lakh and default bail on two bailable terms. He was also forbidden to leave the country and repeat the crime.

However, despite getting bail, Ranya and Tarun were kept in custody. Under the COFEPOSA law, prevention of up to one year can be given only on suspicion basis.

According to court documents, Ranya’s bail petitions have been rejected several times before. The Petition was rejected by Special Economic Offenses Court on 14 March, Sessions Court on 27 March and Karnataka High Court on 26 April.

What is the whole matter?

Kannada actress and senior police officer K.K. Ramchandra Rao’s step -daughter Ranya landed at Campgowda Airport in Bangalore on March 3.

At around 6 o’clock, Ranya moved towards the exit gate. She went to the Green Channel to get out. Green channel is for passengers who have no goods in terms of investigation.

Ranya Rao married Jatin Hawakari at a high-profile ceremony in Taj West End a few months before his arrest.

Ranya used to get out of the airport in the same way. DRI officials stopped him that day. Asked- Do you have gold or anything that you want to tell? Ranya replied- no.

In such a conversation, Ranya’s face started appearing nervous. Officers suspected. He called two female officers and asked Ranya to check. When he was searched, gold was found in different parts of his body. A total of 14.2 kg of gold was recovered from them, which cost around Rs 12.56 crore.

Ranya was immediately taken into custody. Since then, Ranya has been in police custody. According to police sources, Ranya had told that she had gone to Europe, America and Middle East countries many times. He described the reason for modeling photo shoots and real estate work.

Tarun Konduru Raju was arrested on March 10, the arrest is related to the gold smuggling case against his friend and co-accused Kannada actress Ranya Rao.

Ranya is currently closed with two co-accused Tarun Raju and Sahil Sakariya in Bangalore’s Central Jail. The matter is being investigated by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Information Directorate and CBI. He has been charged under sections 135 and 104 of the Customs Act. Action is underway under section 108.

The government issued a custody order under Cofeposa on 22 April. Investigation revealed that Ranya had gone to Dubai alone 34 times between 2023 and 2025.
