Rahul Bose was born in Kolkata. After spending the first few years, his family shifted to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he studied at Cathedral and John Connon School. Rahul wanted to go to America for further studies, but when he did not get admission there, he took admission in Sidenham College, Mumbai.

Rahul was also very active in sports during college days. He became part of the college’s rugby team and participated in the Western India Championship. Apart from this, he also won the silver medal in boxing. In a conversation with ANI, he told that his father was more worried about appearances and clothes, while his mother was very serious about career. She used to force Rahul to play the game.

Rahul himself admitted that he was a very poor child in childhood. His mother slapped him every day for five consecutive years. However, Rahul believes that his mother’s strict upbringing made him what he is today.

Job was left to become an actor

Rahul Bose acting for the first time when he was just six years old. He played the lead character in the school’s play Tom, The Pipers Sun. However, it was not a professional acting. After the death of his mother in 1987, Rahul worked as a copyriever in the Redification. Meanwhile, he used to act on films and stage. Then in 1994, English, from August, entered the acting world.

This film, made in English language, was the first film directed by Dev Benegal. After doing this film, Rahul’s full inclination was on making a career in acting. In such a situation, he quit his job.

In a conversation with Lallantop, Rahul had said, ‘I was not given a chair to sit in my first film. I was the lead actor. I never struggled. I went directly from the stage to play the lead role and there was no actress in the film, only I was. Still I was never given a chair on the set. Sometimes I used to sit on the road divider or parapet, such as there is no problem, but the rest always had chairs. The producer, his sister, his uncle all used to get a chair, except me.

After facing such a treatment for a few days, I went to a restaurant, where the fancy version of the film set. At that time its price was 10 thousand, about 30 years ago, but I bought my own chair. Since that experience, I always bring my chair on the set because I never want to go through that insult again. ‘

Work was not found after leaving the job, TV’s stand

On the other hand, after leaving the job, Rahul did not get any work for two months. In such a situation, he turned to television. He got work in India’s first English TV show ‘A Mouth Full of Sky’ and also became the host of BBC World’s fashion show Style.

In 1998, Rahul Bose appeared in Kaizad Gustad’s Bombay Boys alongside Naseeruddin Shah. After this, he also worked in Dev Benegal’s second film Split Wide Open. In this film, he was in the role of a wander seller. To play this character well, he spent some time in the slums of Mumbai and saw the real drug dealer closely for about two weeks and then prepared for his character.

Bollywood debut with Jhankar Beats

Rahul Bose got recognition in International and Hindi cinema from English, August film, but in 2003 he made his Bollywood debut through Jhankar Beats. The songs of this film were well liked and proved to be a big hit among the urban multiplex audiences.

In the same year, Rahul also worked in Mumbai Matini, which was also released in the UK and this made Rahul access to the international audience. This was followed by films like Rahul Chameli, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Maan Gaya Mughal-e-Azam, Chan Coolie Ki Man Coolie, Dil Dhadakne Do, Bulbul and Shaurya.

Anil Kapoor suppressed Rahul’s throat

Rahul Bose was also seen in the 2015 film Dil Dhadakne Do. In this, he became the husband of Priyanka Chopra. While Anil Kapoor became Priyanka’s father. A scene was shown in the film, in which Kamal (Anil Kapoor) takes a stand for his daughter Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) and rescues her from the clutches of her husband Manav (Rahul Bose), whose dominating behavior is very upset and wants to get divorced.

Anil was to shoot a scene with Rahul Bose, in which he has a dispute with Rahul and he has to show a knife to Rahul, but Anil strangled Rahul while going a step ahead. He had taken the scene so seriously that he started feeling real.

Anil tells Rahul in that shot-I will uproot his hand. After this, he strangles Rahul with wire. They were not asked to do so. Anil himself started doing so, after which he had to stop and explain that it was only shooting. Anil described this scene as his best scene in the film.

Rahul never wants to marry, has been in a relationship five times

Rahul, who has been 58 years old, has not married yet. In an interview, he had given the reason for this, saying, ‘When I was 18 years old, I had decided that I will never marry. At that time my mother said that he would see in the coming five or ten years. If she were alive today, she would realize that I was right.

Rahul also told that there have been five long and serious relationships in his life. He described his life as full of romance and said that he is ready to fall in love again in future. According to Rahul, love for me does not mean going to dinner with anyone, but laughter, ease and mental peace.

International rugby player has been there

Along with being an actor and director, Rahul is also a rugby player. Rahul participated in the Asian Union Rugby Championship for eight years. He played the last international rugby match against Pakistan and the first against Singapore in 1998. When Rahul used to play Ragby, he still worked in films. However, it was necessary for him to play for the country more than films.

During an interview with India West website on 23 November 2018, he said, “When I used to play for India, I used to see my rugby calendar and watching tournaments used to take films not to hit the game dates because I had to play for India more important than acting in films.” However, in 2008, he retired from the game. After retiring, he also emphasized on the promotion of rugby.

Disputes over statement in Nirbhaya case, also denied forgiveness

Rahul made a statement on a sensitive case like Nirbhaya rape case, which became the cause of controversy. He had said that no matter how heinous the crime is, if a person really regrets his actions and wants to improve, then he should be given a chance. The law should do its work and punish, but while serving the punishment, if he wants to improve or he feels scope for that thing and he starts realizing his crime, then he should definitely give him a chance.

The actor was severely criticized after this statement. Rahul was asked to withdraw the statement and apologize, but the actor did not apologize and said in his clarification that he was not against the law and the trollers should read his statement properly.
